Damage to Icom 7700 During Service (Warranty - 3 months old)
Rig purchased new from HRO at end of October 2008. Unit failed in service in
early January 2009.
Using factory shipping cartons, both inner and outer, unit was to Icom Service
Michigan
for warranty repair. UPS 2nd Day shipping costs, with insurance, was $178.
Was diagnosed by Icom Michigan as defective output transistors.
Transistors and resistors replaced under warranty as per invoice.
Unit was return shipped using factory shipping cartoons, 3-5 days shipping time,
return
shipping paid for by Icom.
On unpacking unit, I noted numerous cosmetic damage items, detailed below.
The unit was not noted as damaged when checked into Icom Service, and was always
kept covered when in hamshack.
Photo Documentation of damage in the following areas - see photos for details:
1) Lower cover, front near face plate, deep scratches, appears that unit was
set down onto of
something on service bench. Also noted damage on the rear area of the top cover.
2) Left side of the top cover, near screw, perhaps a screwdriver slipped here,
note mark.
3) Front rack handle on the right side.
